VirtuaLab: Expanding STEAM Learning through VR

The goal of PROTO Invention Factory’s project VirtuaLab is to develop a virtual reality (VR)-based educational tool designed to support STEAM education (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics).

As project outcomes:

VR Simulations

1–2 interactive VR simulations will be created, enabling students to learn and experiment with various scientific and technological concepts.

Teacher Trainings

Three training sessions will be organised to introduce the VR solution and handbook, supporting teachers’ digital and pedagogical skills in implementing VR-based education.

Digital Handbook (Playbook)

A resource for teachers and developers that provides methodological guidelines on how to use the simulations and organise pre- and post-learning activities for students.

Partnership

The project is carried out in collaboration with Enversed Studios in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, specialised in VR and XR technologies, and known for developing gamified learning environments and immersive solutions.

The project is funded by the Erasmus+ program .

The VirtuaLab game content is developed in close cooperation between Proto, Enversed, and Tallinn University. Tallinn University’s School of Educational Sciences ensures alignment with the Estonian national curriculum (grades 7–9) and provides a methodological framework for teachers to use VR simulations in class. The School of Digital Technologies evaluates the clarity, engagement, and educational value of the VR experience through focus groups with teachers and test classes.
