The first attempts to drill tunnels were made as early as the 19th century. at the beginning of the century. While mines used picks and shovels, engineer Sir Marc Isambard Brunel developed a mechanized drill to build underground tunnels. Although his solution was not immediately adopted, in 1846 Henri-Joseph Maus implemented an innovative drilling method in the Alps to build a tunnel between Italy and France.
Back then, the interior of the Earth was as distant and unknown to humans as outer space. But can we still accurately imagine what is happening beneath our feet today?

PROTO’s underground travel cage takes you where no human foot has ever set foot. VR technology and a moving platform make the journey not only visible, but also felt with the body – it’s a ride that’s not watched, but experienced.
